Drawings from my original concept for my contents page are shown above, as from research and my own design ideas I wanted to experiment with the concept of the line manipulation. After I experimented with this on InDesign I found that I could not create a design using my idea of line manipulation that created a professional design that I would be happy with so I moved on to my second idea of having a strip of colour so there would still be some element of lines going across the page but it would be larger. Below are my drawings of this.
After experimentation on InDesign I decided that the third design where the green strip goes horizontally is the best design and the most aesthetically pleasing which led me on to thinking where the title would look best which inspired the drawings below.
From this I decided that the contents page title looked best cutting across the green section as shown in my first drawings. I wanted to incorporate some element of initials and a tab so that the upper left corner would not be empty, the drawings below are an exploration of this.
I rated the designs of the tab from 1 to 6 to see easily which ones I preferred.
From these sketches I found that that the three different columns is the best for fitting with the rule of thirds and making an overall better design.
Above is the design that I will try to roughly follow when I am in the final stages of production after I have experimented with other ideas sufficiently for me to be truly be able to produce a well balanced contents page.
My final contents page has areas of similarity to this sketch, however whilst on InDesign the actual designs that I sketched came out a lot differently so I had to cope with this by making changes so that my overall design was as good as it could be.
