I selected the green area to the right of my model and selected hue/saturation to dull the background slightly to make it easier to put text over the top. I did this within photoshop to create a better background.
I made the background lighter so that it would be duller.
Here is font some of my font research for my contents page.
In my research I had seen a very similar font and I believed it worked well on the page, so this is my interpretation of it.
I experimented with different font sizes, italics, wider letters, taller letters and the spacing in between.
I even looked at the different effects I could add in such as the outer glow which my final one has.
Above is the image with the finished Contents page title overlaid.
I had seen in research an example of where the page number and the name of the model for the cover story where shown on the top of the page so I tried this. The brown colour does match some of the surroundings as I used the eye drop tool to select a colour however it may be too close to the colours of the image as it slightly fades in to the background.
I tried a different more visible colour. It was more visible and fit better but I still believed that it could be better.
Another piece of research had displayed the same information but in a different format. As this time it was shown within a small circle.
These sketches are different combinations of lines and titles that I was considering creating at this stage. I tried the most successful ones in Indesign to see it with the actual photograph rather than my sketches. After looking at my drawings, I found that I preferred the examples where the lines did not cross vertically on the left and I preferred it when the lines went to the edges of the page going over each other.
This is just an example of me trying this combination out however I still didn't think the concept worked. I decided to take this aspect out and come back to it when the opportunity arose.

I decided to try out some designs with lines to see if any of my sketches would work in reality. I found that this layout would not work as the borders got through my model and breaks the image of her up, when the model should be dominate.
I took a line away to see the effect of only two lines and the Contents being underlined but I still did not like how the lines broke the flow of the image of mode.
I tried yet another layout with the lines, although the image was no longer being broken, I still did not think it worked well.
More line development.
Some font research for the idea of having the cover story page number and name of model separate from the other information.
While I did it, I compared it to another magazine design which I had used in my research.
I added in some details under the contents title as seen in this research. I also once again attempted to add the additional information of the cover story page number and model name. This time I used the font I had previously researched. I also put it in the colour which was the last colour I tried when I previously attempted to add in this design feature.
I then moved the information to try and find an ideal location.
In a separate document I wrote out the basic pieces of information which I wanted to display. This was just a starting point and I knew that I would most likely edit it as I went along, but I wanted a starting point to use from the beginning.
This is my font research to try and find two corresponding fonts to use.
I attempted to set out my contents page without the picture so that I could follow the rule of thirds clearly.
Continuing to lay it out.
I then added in the picture into the background to create an idea of the contents page.
I decided to try some different images as the background.
This is it without grid lines.
I changed it to another image and tried to move around the text to create a better look.
At this point I decided that the design wasn't working as the background is too prominent, the text was being easily lost and lines cut the light of the sun. So, as I felt that this concept had no where else it could go I decided to leave it hear and start a new concept with the addition of extra images.

You have both planning drawings in this blog page and also research . You may want to create a special blog page to make sure th3ese strengths are not overlooked.
